Taxis: how does it work in Paris? |

You can hail a taxi only when the Taxi light on top is illuminated. Taxi stands are found near intersections, along main streets, train stations, and metro stations around the city. At peak hours it is advised to order a cab by phone. Meters start at 2-3€, a little bit more if you call in advance. It's not obligatory to tip, but many people leave 5-10%. Drivers are not required to take more than 3 passengers at a time, and can charge a supplement for baggage, a fourth passenger, an animal, or even for a pickup at the railroad station. A receipt is provided upon a request. Not all taxis accept credit cards so be prepared to have cash or to specifically request a taxi with credit card facilities when ordering by phone. Personal cheques are not accepted. |
