Christian Boltanski “Personnes”
Monumenta 2010 |
|
Christian Boltanski, key figure of French contemporary art, went on to develop an international career in the 1970s that has placed him in the ranks of the world’s leading contemporary artists. His artistic work is haunted by the problems of death, memory and loss; he often seeks to memorialize the anonymous and those who have disappeared.
Individual memory and the passage of time are recurring themes in the work of Christian Boltanski, who has devised “Personnes” especially for the Monumenta exhibition at the Grand Palais. In this installation combining visual impact and sound, he tackles the question of destiny and the ineluctability of death. |

The Dutch Golden Age
From Rembrandt to Vermeer |
|
The Pinacotheque, in association with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, will present one of the most interesting periods in art history: the Dutch XVIIth century.
The "The Dutch Golden Age" exhibition will put on an outstanding ensemble of over 130 pieces, including about 60 paintings, 30 graphic works, 10 etchings as well as 10 objects to give an visual representation of that period (carved ivories, tapestries, china, wooden miniatures, silverware and glassworks).
The exhibition has to set apart individuals such as Vermeer or Rembrandt who are finally not particularly representative of that period. One and the other have remained the absolute models, beyond time and period, regarded for four centuries as the leading painters in the historyof art.
This "The Dutch Golden Age" exhibition wants above all to put forward Rembrandt’s singular role as the a influential artist. Rembrandt enjoyed a notoriety that gave him a very particular status thanks to his tolerance, his modernity and his emotional power, chiefly translated by his use of light. |

The Stranglers
Suite XVI Tour |
|
The Stranglers has been founded by the drummer Jet Black . Other original personnel were bass player/vocalist Jean Jacques Burnel, guitarist/vocalist Hugh Cornwell and keyboardist Dave Greenfield.
The Stranglers' early sound was driven by Burnel's pulsating bass, but also proudly gave prominence to Greenfield's keyboards at a time when the instrument was seen as unfashionable. Their early music was also characterised by the growling vocals and sometimes misanthropic lyrics of both Burnel and Cornwell.
Suite XVI was released in September 2006 and continued the band's resurgence. Although partly a return to the band's heavier punk roots, the album featured a typically idiosyncratic mixture of musical styles. |
